The whole idea that women can’t play video games is so stupid because seriously what is it about using a controller to move a character around that is so hard that a woman cannot do it please explain this entire concept to me

She pointed out the sexism in video games, so men threatened her until she fled her home

On Monday, Anita Sarkeesian posted a segment titled “Women as Background Decoration.” It examined how gratuitous sexual abuse and violence permeates contemporary video games. By the next day, she had received so many violent threats that she had to flee her home. And these weren’t idle Internet threats — some contained accurate identifying information about Sarkeesian’s home and family, enough for law enforcement to get involved.

But she’s not wrong | Follow @micdotcom

The people who say that there’s no sexism in gaming; do they ever wonder why “trolls” consistently target people who point out sexism and take it to these extremes or is the whole thing just random chance to them every single time?

Wow. I watched this video a few months back, and I had no idea this had happened. I ultimately stopped being an active online gamer due to the harassment. Getting a message saying “hey whore” every time I logged onto PSN. Or being told a variety of sexually explicit things while playing online… it’s exhausting. Poor girl.

So, they couldn’t kill off a perverted pedophile for the fans (but it would’ve given Aria a decent storyline), but they can kill off one of the greatest anti-heroes of all time? Fuck you, Marlene.

I loved Mona. She was the greatest character on the show, but you killed her off. Fuck you.

mona’s death actually meant something in the show; she figured out who A was, she got to be A for two seasons, and she’d gotten a sorta redemption storyline when all was said and done. her character got tremendous character growth. but she was always fated to die because she died in the books. once she wasn’t A any longer, her purpose to the show became infinitely diminished — especially after S3. and there were plenty of times when the show hinted that mona was gonna die, so it was inevitable. but they actually made us care about her, so her death had an impact.

what the fuck would it have accomplished to have killed off ezra? nothing. we would have had to sit through S5b, S6, and S7 with aria pining over her ~one true love~. it wouldn’t have given aria any character development, because the writers have never given aria character development. and ezra’s never been useful or integral to the plot in the way mona has been. his death would have meant nothing because he is a worthless character. it would have been a waste of time. ezra was irrelevant in the books, in the show, and his death would have been the most irrelevant thing ever. you think they’d give a grieving aria the same storyline as they gave emily after maya died? fuck no. aria wouldn’t be allowed to move on, ever, and would be reduced to a simpering mess. look at how they’ve handled her killing shana.

tl;dr: mona’s death meant something, it was relevant to the show like mona always was. ezra’s death would be stupid and pointless, and we already get enough of that character as it is
